Crocodile Habitats

This course provides participants with the practical skills and knowledge required to work safely in crocodile habitats. It covers crocodile behaviour recognition, hazard identification and risk assessment, implementing safety procedures, using crocodile-specific PPE and equipment, and responding to emergency situations in crocodile environments.

Designed for those working in crocodile management, wildlife operations, environmental monitoring, or remote fieldwork, this unit ensures participants can confidently follow safety protocols, comply with workplace procedures, and protect themselves and others when operating in areas inhabited by crocodiles.

What This Course Covers:
• Species identification and key features and characteristics of crocodiles
• Accessing and sourcing information to determine and assess behavioural patterns
• Humane treatment and safe working procedures around crocodiles in habitats
• Legislative, ethical, safety, biosecurity, and workplace compliance requirements around crocodile habitats
• Recording and reporting of crocodile observations
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools

Training is conducted in a culturally respectful and safety-focused environment, with a strong emphasis on real-world scenarios, especially for those working in Indigenous ranger programs or land/waterway management roles.

Nationally Recognised Qualification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for SFICRO306 – Work safely in crocodile habitats, a nationally recognised unit of competency.
