- The provided pre-course study, is recommended to be completed. These learning materials have been developed to assist; new learners to the subject or learners with prior training and experience who wish to refresh their existing skills & knowledge.
The Standard face to face course is a longer duration and focusses on training of skills and knowledge as well as practical assessments.
Thorough training of skills and knowledge is to prepare students for the practical assessments on the day. The standard course is for those students who require practice of skills prior to partaking in the practical assessments.
As First Aid training is refreshed every three years and CPR every 12 months, unless students are regularly completing workplace training, where the practice of hands on first aid skills take place, we recommend completing the standard course.
This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. It also covers the administration of oxygen to casualties using various delivery systems.
The training is designed for individuals who may need to operate specialized life-saving equipment, such as oxygen units, in advanced first aid scenarios across different environments, including workplaces and community settings. This course is particularly relevant for professionals in the marine and dive industry, dental clinics, as well as those working as lifeguards, swim instructors, pool attendants, and similar roles.
- Understanding legal, workplace, and community responsibilities
- Scene evaluation and management
- Assessing a casualty
- Administering CPR for adults, children, and infants
- Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Managing an unconscious breathing casualty
- Operating advanced resuscitation equipment, including:
- Pocket masks
- Free-flow masks
- Bag valve mask resuscitators
- Demand valves
- Manually triggered ventilators
- Suction devices
- Oropharyngeal airway devices
- Pulse oximeters
- Conducting equipment maintenance checks and identifying faults
- Performing hazard and risk assessments when using oxygen
- Managing wounds with a tourniquet
- Applying wound packing techniques
- Conducting secondary assessments through visual and verbal checks, including monitoring vital signs
- Communicating incident details effectively to emergency services
Written/oral questions, practical assessments & scenario based assessments.
For competency to be achieved, students must meet the benchmark of the assessment/evidence criteria for the units of competency listed in the training package on training.gov.au.
This requires students to have physical mobility to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted, single rescuer, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), on an adult resuscitation manikin that is on the floor. Please contact our friendly staff if you are affected by these requirements.
