Crown Of Thorns Starfish Control Diver

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST – for divers to work on the World Heritage, Great Barrier Reef!

Divers will be employed to undertake COTS control between Lizard Island and the Whitsundays.

Divers are required to live at sea for up to 20 days and have their own accommodation for the days ashore.

Key objectives of the role include:

  • Dive safely
  • Conduct COTS population suppression and protect sites from COTS damage
  • Ensure that the marine tourism industry is given the best possible COTS protection
  • Act as lookout, deckhand, first aider and tender coxswain
  • Work within and contribute positively to a diverse team
  • Keep all required qualifications and documentation up to date
  • Provide and maintain (in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications) all required personal dive equipment
  • Accurately record all required information after each dive. 

Minimum qualifications

  • Dive Master or above
  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation
  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Desirable skills and attributes

  • Coxswain, Master 5, MED
  • Exemption 38
  • Marine Science
  • Trade tickets

  • Leadership

  2. Are you physically fit? What do you do to maintain your physical fitness? In this role you must be willing and able to undertake diving activities and be able to pass an occupational dive medical (AS2299.1) annually. Hold as a minimum Dive Master qualification (or nationally accredited equivalent).
  3. What compressed air diving, free diving and snorkelling experience do you have?
